Five Guys

This vibrant Five Guys sign has caught my eye on many occasions I have walked along Yonge Street down toward Dundas Square, and I wanted to share with you on foodie utopia my recent visit to them prior to another food blog (Gamberoni) which also happened this same day. I wanted to have a quick sample of what their burgers were like, simply because I was craving a burger and also wanted to blog as well!

On site, my boyfriend and I order One Cheeseburger with Large Fries. We received a number and got to see the workers creating all the customer’s burgers almost like in a conveyor belt system in a factory. Although I believe it was the style of the restaurant for the customer to watch the cooking process unfold, it was a bit of a turnoff for me because it was extremely loud and the workers were moving around so chaotically that it was giving me a headache. The wait time was also pretty long, but that may be because of the amount of people who were ahead of us.

In addition to this, the bag and the displays of the food weren’t eye catching. They simply wrapped the burger in am aluminum foil, put the fries in a plain, white cup and dumped extra fries into the bag, making it extremely greasy.

Despite the poor presentation however, I must say that the burger itself was absolutely fantastic. I had added some caramelized onions, mushroom, steak sauce, mayonnaise and ketchup to my burger to customize it to my liking, and to my liking it was! The fries were also perfectly crispy and seasoned – and the extra fries definitely didn’t hurt!

Overall, I can see why Five Guys has kept its ground on Yonge Street. This caught me a good lesson that appearance isn’t a defining factor of what the food tastes like, because this quick meal was absolutely phenomenal. I’m looking forward to having another Five Guys burger in the near future.
