Pho Xe Lua (Pho Train)

Foodie utopia is back on another Saturday to present to you a new Vietnamese cuisine restaurant in none other than the heart of Chinatown. Pho Xe Lua, or famously known as Pho Train is a popular Vietnamese spot due to its 24 hour access in Chinatown. I had the honor of writing another foodie post for utopia after making a visit here with my partner.

This restaurant is on top of the Celebrity Hotpot restaurant (which perhaps, I’ll be making a post on soon!) and was pretty decently crowded when we entered. Staff were wearing red shirts and greeted the two of us to a new table. We took a glance at the menu, however I was already certain on our order for the duration of our stay. I wrote it down and swiftly handed the sheet to the waiter so it could come to our table.

Shortly after ordering our bowls, we were greeted by a large bowl of Pho Dac Biet and a small bowl of Pho Tai. The pho was piping hot, which is essential for a great bowl of pho.

I do believe however, that the noodle was a bit too large for my liking, but that may be due to my personal bias that I thought it lessened the quality of the dish. Compared to the thin vermecielli of Pho Hung for instance, this noodle was more thick and didn’t feel like a “true” bowl of pho. Perhaps that’s just because of my own experience being raised as a Vietnamese child. The soup broth however was delicious and added some great satisfaction to our tummies!

Overall, the service, taste and restaurant atmosphere was pretty standard for a Vietnamese restaurant, but I believe that they’re budding due to their 24 hour service. Not many places are available and open during the late nights, so it’s popular among the young people who had a night out with their friends and felt like a quick bowl of pho. I wouldn’t mind coming back again, if I’m presented with the chance!
