Le Select Bistro

One evening, for my boyfriend and I’s 7 months together – we took a visit to Le Select Bistro – a hidden French Restaurant nearby where I currently live. I found this restaurant with a simple Google search of “Best French Restaurants In Toronto” and I wasn’t disappointed.

Le Select gave a very Parisian, romantic feel with each table having a candle lit. The lighting was dim and some classical music played in the background – it was a great atmosphere. We were greeted by the host who led us to our table, and the waitress was quick to hand us a menu so we could order. The menu itself screamed French – the main items were all written in French with English descriptions in fancy calligraphy.

It was kind of hard to grab photos due to the lighting in the restaurant, but I can tell you that the starter for the night – Vol Au Vent Escargots were extremely enticing both in presentation and in taste. These were escargot in a puff pastry with leeks, cream, white wine and fresh herbs. This was really delicious and it really took me back to when I visited Paris.

Soon after the starter finished, we had our main courses come out – on the top I had the Steak Tartare which had grass fed Angus beef Tartare with chopped pistachios. This also came with a side of fries. I must say that this dish was truly authentic – it actually beat my experience at Stratus when I had their steak tartare. The tartare was extremely creamy and blended well with the salty chips served with the plate. The fries were perfectly cooked and was served with a special mayo, as well as ketchup.

On my boyfriend’s side of the table he had the Paleron De Boeuf Bourgiugnon which was braised beef with red wine sauce, crispy pork lardons, and Alsatian spatzle. On his account, this dish was extremely savoury and was prepared spectacularly.

My time at the Bistro was definitely my best experience with French cuisine, and really made me want to explore some more French cuisine around the city. I’m looking forward to doing so in future foodie blogs, but for now, Le Select Bistro was a great start!
